Department of Public Health Organized “Journal Day”

Professor Dr. Harun-Ar-Rashid making opening remarks at the program titled “Journal Day” organized by the Department of Public Health held in 71 Milonayoton of Daffodil Tower, DIU

The Department of Public Health organized a “Journal Day” on Friday, 02 November 2018 for the students of Master of Public Health (MPH) Program. A total of 102 students from 18-20 Batch and all faculty members of the department participated in the program, which was held in 71 Milonayaton of Daffodil Tower. Prof. Dr. Harun-Ar- Rashid, Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health presided over the program. Four (4) MPH students, from Bangladesh (2), Nepal (1) and Somalia (1) presented research papers published in different journals. Ms. Tasnim Akter -a student of 18th Batch presented a paper on “Work, gender roles, and health: neglected mental health issues among female workers in the readymade garment industry in Bangladesh.” The mentioned paper was published by Sadika Akhter et al. in International Journal of Women’s Health. Mr. Abdishakuur Osman Abdilahi- a student (18th Batch) from Somalia offered a paper titled “Determinants of Obesity in the Adults of Jizan City, Saudi Arabia”, an article written by Nagla Kamal Soliman EL Sayed et al., printed in Indian Journal of Nutrition. The third paper was presented by a Nepali student Mr. Bed Prakash Sharma titled “Trends and Inequalities in Use of Maternal Health Care Services in Nepal: Strategy in the Search for Improvement”, which was published by Suresh Mehata et al. in BioMed Research International Journal. The last paper was presented by a Bangladeshi student of 18th Batch, Dr. Mohammed Munshi entitled “A Prospective Study of Tobacco Smoking and Mortality in Bangladesh” published by Fen Wu et al. in PLoS ONE. All the papers provided the audience an insight into contemporary public health issues around the world.

Each presentation was followed by a discussion and question & answer session. The concluding remarks were made by Professor Dr. Harun-Ar- Rashid, Professor and the Head of the department of Public Health. The program was coordinated by Dr. Nadira Mehriban, Assistant Professor and Mr. Imdadul Haque, Lecturer of Department of Public Health.
