Department of Public Health organized a Field Visit for MPH students to the Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR)

A field visit was held on 29 November 2018 with participation of 19th Batch MPH students (Weekend and Evening Program). A total 19 students attended the field visit. The students and faculty member were welcomed by Engr.  Rezaul Karim, the Principal Scientific officer (IFST) and Project director (EPF-TTI--BCSIR) of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR). The program started with a presentation made by Engr.  Rezaul Karim on contribution of BCSIR in National Development. He mentioned that BCSIR facilitates industrial and scientific research and utilizes the research findings in commercial sector. After the presentation students visited different Departments of BCSIR. They were taken to the Tower Garden, where vegetables are grown without soil. The students observed the Photo-bioreactor and Live Feed Technology for fish. They also visited the Analytic Service Laboratory. BCSIR has Amino Acid Analyzer which analyses fetal blood serum for different diseases. There is also Gas Chromatographer (GC) for measuring fatty acid profile of different oil including Hilsa fish. The students observed how PCR analyzer detects Hepatitis B and C in human blood samples. The most interesting part was to observe the Natural Mosquito Trap which is ecofriendly and can trap 3000 mosquitoes in one night.

The field visit concluded with thanking the organizers from BSCIR. The field visit was coordinated by Dr. Nadira Mehriban, Assistant Professor of Department of Public Health.
