Department of Public Health Organized “Journal Day” Spring 2019

The Department of Public Health organized a “Journal Day” on Friday, 29 March 2019 for the students of Master of Public Health (MPH) Program. A total of 108 students from 19-21 Batch and all faculty members of the department participated in the program, which was held in 71 Milonayaton of Daffodil Tower. Prof. Dr. Harun-Ar- Rashid, Professor and Head of the Department of Public Health presided over the program. Four (4) MPH students, from Bangladesh (2), Nigeria (1) and Somalia (1) presented research papers published in different journals. Mr. Mohammad Arifur Rahman -a student of 21st Batch presented a paper on “Parent’s Knowledge about Children with Autism and Caring for the Needs in a selected Rural area of Bangladesh”. The mentioned paper was published in the Proceedings of 06th Public Health Foundation Day Celebration & International Conference held in Dhaka from 07-09 December, 2018. Ms. Ummi Rahmat Abubakar - a student (19th Batch) from Nigeria offered a paper titled “Health risks associated with obesity”.

The paper was published in JEMDSA – a journal published by a University Medicaal School of South Africa in 2005. The third paper was presented by a Somali student Mr. Muktar Abdirahman Farah, titled “Risk Factors of Protein Energy Malnutrition Deficiency among Children Under five years at Alruhal Camp-Kass Locality, South Darfur State Sudan, which was published in Journal of Bacteriology and Parasitology in 2015. The last paper was presented by a Bangladeshi student of 20th Batch, Mr. Mridul Sarker. The paper was published in New England Journal of Medicine in 2015.    All the papers presented in the ‘Journal Day’ were on important public health issues and generated much interest among the participants of the program.

Each presentation was followed by a discussion and question & answer session. The concluding remarks were made by Professor Dr. Harun-Ar- Rashid, Professor and the Head of the department of Public Health.
